Does the first of the month sneak up on you guys too? I feel like every time we turn over the calendar, the weeks have absolutely FLOWN by.

Then, the first week of the month, I am super motivated, set that month’s goals, and am ready to kick ass. But that used to fade a bit as the weeks went by.

NOT ANYMORE.

I’ve found the perfect combo of a day planner + journal… a bullet journal.

Now, before you start yelling at me that everyone started bullet journaling like 2 years ago, I KNOW. I resisted because I was so intimidated by all of the Pinterest layouts I saw that seemed way above my artistic abilities.

But after looking into a million different planners and juggling 3 different notebooks at times, I decided to give it a try.

(Seriously, at one point I had one notebook for random brainstorming, one for goals, and I kept my daily tasks in Trello.)

Bullet Journaling allows me to:

  1. Be more intentional.
  2. Manage my time better.
  3. Accomplish more throughout the day.
  4. Be more grateful.
  5. Take notes on books I’m reading, podcasts I’m listening to, etc.

And keep everything in the same place!

I track a shit ton of stuff in my bullet journal, but the nice thing is that it’s totally customizable. I have a monthly page that tracks my notes and things to do that month. A weekly layout that lists daily gratitude, a focus or theme for each day, weekly wins, and a habit tracker for things like workouts, water consumption, etc.

Then, each day, I start by setting up the page with my daily theme displayed prominently. I also create a timeline where I track my actions by the hour. THIS IS KEY. If you’re like me, you find yourself taking wayyyy more time than is necessary to complete tasks. Hello Instagram scrolling.

So, if you think you might be into bullet journaling, here’s how to get started:

You’re gonna need some supplies. If I’m being v honest, this was the most exciting part of the whole process because it combined two things I love: organizational supplies and Amazon Prime. Here are the pens I ordered and the notebook I chose. We won’t talk about the spending spree that this set off.

While you’re waiting for your stuff to come in, start listing the things you want to track in your journal. Make a list of things that you want to take note of on a monthly, weekly, and daily basis.

Then, plan your layouts. Now, I made a mistake at this point of the process and started looking for bullet journal layouts on Pinterest. If you’re not artistic, this is a littleee intimidating.

My advice is to start simple (you can see all I attempt to do is draw straight lines).

Then, just jump in and get started! Accept that your first few layouts are NOT going to be pretty and start journaling.
